Natural Red Coral, known scientifically as Corallium rubrum, is one of the most highly priced varieties of precious coral with the color red to deep pink.
Primarily found in the Mediterranean Sea, especially off the shores of Italy, Sardinia, and the Adriatic Sea, in smaller quantities they can be seen in various areas of the western Pacific Ocean and Japan.

Red Coral begins as an organic product. These marine polyps are tiny little sea creatures that build out skeletons of calcium carbonate. Through centuries, these polyps build their branching skeleton into dense, red coral forms that are collected and cut and polished into jewelry and decorative items. Coral does not resemble any other gemstone; it has an opaque, matte appearance and takes on a lovely luster when polished. Perfect for beads, cabochons, and carved shapes.

Red Coral is an important stone from time immemorial, of cultural and historical importance. The ancient Romans and Greeks were known to employ it as a protective amulet, while in Hindu and Vedic astrology, the stone is connected with the Mars planet, believed to provide courage, strength, but also to infuse some vitality.
